  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a practicing veterinarian with a focus on survival surgery.
  • Previous experience in a research or vivarium setting is preferred.

FULL DESCRIPTIONOur client is looking for a talented Attending DVM in San Diego, CA
 
  • The selected candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a relevant surgical specialty is highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in conducting surgical procedures on laboratory animals.
  • Strong understanding of biomedical research methodologies and objectives.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic research environment.
 
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
  • Conduct surgical procedures on laboratory animals as part of research projects. NHP (Non-Human Primate) and other large mammals preferred. 
  • Demonstrate proficiency in a variety of surgical techniques relevant to research goals.
  • Collaborate with researchers in both the In Vivo & In Vitro department, and other team members to design and execute surgical protocols aligned with the research objectives.
  • Conduct standard animal physicals and evaluations as necessary. 
  • Provide input and expertise in the development of research proposals and grant applications.
  • Ensure the ethical and humane treatment of animals throughout all stages of the research process.
  • Monitor and assess animal well-being, implementing appropriate measures for pain management and post-operative care.
  • Collect and record data related to surgical procedures, outcomes, and post-operative recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide training to research staff on veterinary, surgical, dosing, & sampling techniques and best practices as it relates to research animals.
  • Stay current with advancements in surgical procedures and share knowledge with the team.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, guidelines, and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with regulatory affairs professionals to prepare and submit documentation for regulatory approvals.


Salary: up to $70 to $75/hr
