Immediate opening for a Controller in San Pedro, CA who possesses:  
  • 10+ years - Progressive Accounting Exp with min. 3 yrs as a Controller or higher level  and  3+ yrs Manufacturing, Agriculture or Seafood experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. MBA a plus & CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains, QuickBooks) and ERP System

FULL DESCRIPTION 
 
The selected candidate will be responsible for: 
  • Lead the accounting team in the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare and present timely financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet account reconciliations and variance analyses.
  • Generate operational and cost performance reports to support continuous improvement.
  • Oversee preparation of annual owner reports.
  • Develop annual operating budgets in coordination with leadership and operational teams.
  • Forecast short- and long-term cash requirements and manage working capital.
  • Support executive leadership in long-range planning, including major capital investments and financial modeling.
  • Monitor actual vs. budgeted performance and drive variance analysis.
  • Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
  • Coordinate external audits and manage the annual audit process.
  • Ensure compliance with tax laws, regulatory reporting, and internal policies.
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures aligned with best practices.
  • Support operations and procurement with inventory valuation, cost accounting, and margin analysis.
  • Partner with plant leadership to identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvement.
  • Oversee operational accounting, including accounts payable, crew wages, and settlement calculations.
  • Direct, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff to promote professional growth and efficiency.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide cross-functional leadership and collaboration across finance, operations, and IT.
  • Approve and review accounts payable for policy compliance.
  • Manage and report on monthly cash flows, vendor discounts, and capital spending.
  • Support ad hoc projects and executive requests.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive company data.
 
 
The selected candidate will also possess: 
  •  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required. MBA a plus.
  • CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
  • 5+ years in a supervisory or controller-level role in manufacturing or seafood/agriculture industries.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP/Great Plains, QuickBooks).
  • Strong ERP experience and ability to analyze large datasets.
  • Demonstrated experience applying GAAP principles.
  • Understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory systems.
  • Business acumen to comprehend the organization strategy and how Finance impacts that strategy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish a plus.
 
 
Salary Range: $ 160k-$185k/yr
